The Dora Baltea River, Crossing the Aosta Valley

The Dora Baltea River, situated in northern Italy, in the Aosta Valley, springs from the highest mountain of Europe, the Mount Blanc (4810 m.), it runs for 160 km. and then flows into the river Po. The water body is almost 160 km in terms of length and is just ne of the most amazing places to go for a white water sport: rafting, hydrospeed or canoeing. The river has its source in Mont Blanc area where the Dora di Val Ferret joins with the Dora di Val Veny. As the river travels through the Aosta Valley, the Dora Baltea River crosses through the city of Courmayeur, Aosta and Saint-Vincent. While making way to Piedmont, the river heads towards the city of Ivrea and crosses through a large portion of Canavese. Soon after, the river reaches the Po, close to Chivasso.

The Dora Baltea is a snow-fed river, so the best conditions are during the early summers – i.e. from the month of May to June. During this time of the year, the river usually shows its maximum strength. From the month of July to September, the levels are much moderate and the temperature is much warmer.

The Dora Baltea is popular place to go on a kayaking or rafting trip, with rapids of high levels and offers the rafters utmost satisfaction with its different navigable sections.
